BULA 5: Scientific Cruise in the Suva Lagoon, Fiji

Following up from the BULA 1, 2, 3, 4 cruises BULA 5 was conducted from the 6th to 15th of June 2004 in the lagoon of Suva, Fiji. In collaboration with MSP (Marine Science program - University of the South Pacific) and SPAS (School of physic and applied Sciences) laboratories, this cruise pursued previous work dealing with the determination of environmental conditions in the Suva lagoon in particular as validating data for the hydrodynamic model.

The cruise was essentially devoted to water physics and chemistry including the following operations :

• Vertical profiles with a SeaBird SBE19 CTD equipped with additional sensors for irradiance, turbidity and fluorimetry on a total of 59 sampling stations.
• Sub-surface water sampling and pre-treatment of samples for analysis of dissolved nutrients on a total of 59 sampling stations.
• Sub-surface water sampling and filtration of samples for analysis of particulate C, N and P and chloropigment on a total of 54 sampling stations.
